We are so very excited here at Houndgate Townhouse that an exhibition of clothing from one of fashion's greatest designers - Yves Saint Laurent - is making its UK debut just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from us, at the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.
Whereby most fashion exhibitions of this type typically show at prestigious London museums, such as Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty at the Victoria and Albert, Yves Saint Laurent's partner and head of the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé, has chosen the Bowes Museum in County Durham as "its location also clearly reflects Saint Laurent’s, and my own, passion for inspiring, timeless places. It is the perfect setting for us - a museum built as a French chateau”
YSL has been credited with creating the "modern woman's wardrobe", with arguably the most famous and influential fashion pieces being the colour block "Mondrian" dress (pictured), "Le Smoking" tuxedo suit and the "Safari" jacket.
Our package includes afternoon tea with a glass of house champagne each on arrival, an overnight stay in one of our eight individually designed bedrooms and breakfast the following morning - click here to book, making sure you choose the YSL Fashion Package option.
Love YSL and travel? Check out the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, Morocco, which Saint Laurent and his partner bought in 1980, and was an unlimited source of inspiration for the designer. We also love the yearly Yves Saint Laurent "Love" posters on display in the adjacent gallery - check out a selection here - which one is your favourite?
